Subsurface Utility Engineering

ESP's Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Division applies the latest technology and methods to accurately map underground utilities for design/construction projects. This important step in the design process has resulted in substantial savings for numerous federal, state and municipal agencies.

Agencies using SUE services include the Federal Highway Administration, Departments of Transportation for North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland and many other states. Some agencies have documented a $12 to $18 saving for every dollar spent on SUE services. These services save project owners money by proactively dealing with subsurface utilities prior to commencing construction activities, and helps keep projects on schedule by avoiding change order cost due to damaged utilities.

The quality and accuracy of a subsurface investigation is based, not only on the right equipment and techniques, but also on the experience of the people performing the service. That's why, in addition to its investment in non-destructive vacuum excavation equipment and geophysical/remote-sensing devices like ground-penetrating radar, ESP employs professional surveyors and engineers with more than 60 combined years of experience performing SUE services. Our high-tech equipment and qualified professional staff allow ESP to provide our clients with accurate and efficient subsurface utility mapping for their projects.

Quality SUE services are the product of a multi-disciplinary understanding of the land development process. With registered professionals in the fields of Land Planning, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Land Surveying, Geographic Information Systems and Environmental Services, ESP provides its SUE Department, and its clients, with a complete information resource.
