NC Port Authority Contract
As part of the first phase of the North Carolina State Ports Authority's major improvement program for the port of Wilmington, four new 100-foot guage container cranes left Shanghai, China on the 788-foot ship Zhen Hua 16 for a two month journey bound for Wilmington, North Carolina. Upon arrival to the east coast of N.C., the ship still had to navigate its way up the Cape Fear to the port. In order to clear the Progress Energy power lines across the Cape Fear River, the cranes’ top sections were stowed between the legs.

To further assure that all clearances for the ship would be met, the Port engaged ESP to perform surveys the day before and the day of the arrival. A hydrographic survey was done on the river bed to insure adequate depth while conventional surveys were performed on the sag of the transmission line cables using triangulation.
